that's funny we were just researching this insect. they call it a chocolate dun and it's about that color. it is around a 16 in size except on the farmington river where it can be as small as 24. there may be other rivers where it is smaller but so far that's what i found out. in my opinion it looks like a browner hendrickson, three tails, dark wings, the male has red eyes. it is an ephemerella so i would think it hatches like the rest. i'm sure your favorite hendrickson pattern in the right size and color would do. google it and you will find some photos of the insect. the spinner is very dark mahogany almost black in the photos i saw.
