When the old southway was open, the point rip was smokin' hot all thru the dog days of summer (search the archives for reports of those adventurous day trips with Rip Ryder).

Back then there were plenty of big bass on the flats all the way up to the tub all summer as well, so I don't think things down at the tip rip will change a bit, it's several miles away for one thing and with this new cut maybe we'll see those big bass from out on the outer rips duck in to this new ideal habitat in fact I am sure we will if not on occasion the whole season.

The days of 40+ inch bass in 24 inches of water are about to return to Monomoy :smokin:

New cut thru

A word, or rather several words of warning about new cut. When the tides turn and flow starts it gets very 'milky' with loose sand! Those very interesting, flats that are being formed on the inside are very unstable, to say the least. It is like quicksand out there. Very unsafe as the sand has not had time to settle. You can be on what feels like solid footing and have everything go out from under you. Until things really settle if you are going to wade out there be sure you have flotation device on and suggest that no-one go out there unaccompanied. Right now it is a very attractive place with a serious disaster waiting to happen. Please be careful!!!

Words of warning are warranted, same situation existed on old southway, the new cut as well as the main Chatham Inlet for that matter - definitely a cause for caution.

That being said, the infusion of oxygenated water should bring fish deep into the refuge again and the west common flats are flat as pavement mid-to-crib.

About time to get out there!
