It seems Paul our angling information officer has gone mad! He is pumping out reports on a weekly basis now that the season is well and truly under way.

There is a comprehensive report on the trout fishing for some of the Suir River in the South East of the country (Southern Region). Regarded as one of the best trout streams in the Ireland and Britain this report gives a real flavour of irish river trout fishing...

PS plus loads on lake and salmon fishing too (as usual)

Unfortunately the salmon and trout seasons will be closed at that time but there is still a chance of pike on the fly locally if it takes your fancy. That depends on the water temperatures not falling off too much though, and you know Ireland, wet and miserable is more likely...

If you have time you could get a trip to the coast around wexford and waterford... a good chance of bass on the fly, but I don't have any local knowledege to hand about the best venues for this. Needless to say you would be the only guy out there with a fly rod if you went...

If you are interested I will go through the files and pick out some of the most likely beaches and rocky shores. Can also send you on maps etc to help plan such an excursion.

Hmmm, Bass in saltwater, trout, salmon & sea runs in the rivers & lakes - the words International Clave spring to mind! It's been several years since I made the pilgrimage to the Emerald Isle and it would be grand to get back there.

Striblue, you may want to include Enniscoe House in Crossmolina Co. Mayo in your itinerary. In addition to a fine country house steeped in history, they run a Family History center for folks like your wife to trace their ancestry. The fact that it stands on the shores of Lough Conn is incidental of course! ;)

What do you mean "Terry...MAY be going to Ireland" Oh I'm going. Tickets almost in hand. Whadayathink I got the 4 pc Sage DS-2 for? (which was laying out over 60 feet of line on the Millers river yesterday, yippee!)

I stand corrected!

The Weir lad is out swinging his graphite shillelagh again! ;D

Could it have been the long day of wind casting in the brine has added some power into your backcast? Uncurling trout tippets is likely to put finesse into an angler's next salty day too. The Emerald Isle trip will put a little peaty soul into your music. Sounds like a winner!
