Just got a pair of chest neoprane waders..mainly for float tubing, but am getting into fly fishing instead of spin fishing (or in addition to). Do I need to buy a pair of wading shoes to put over the 'stocking feet". The waders are all one piect and the bottomss are pretty thin

Boots give far more support, and aren't necessarily high on the shins. If you get some, be sure to try them on over the stocking foot of the waders as opposed to just your foot itself. The stocking foot tends to add a size to the boots that you'll need.

Wading shoes are good for specific purposes (i.e., wet wading), but you'll probably be better off getting wading boots.
