Nice fly and photo. What are the ingredients? Have you tried Keys style flies for pike before? I'm wondering if it helps prevent bite-offs to move the materials to the back of the hook.
Maybe you've already thought of this, but you can also slide a foam popper or diver head onto the hook and instantly make it a topwater fly .
I agree with the idea of coating the thread wraps with epoxy. These type of flies do catch fish, although I don't really see any difference in the amount of biteoffs and leader damage as compared to standard flies.
