Over the last 15 days about 5,000 salmon and grilse have enterd the Northwest Miramichi. that puts the totals at 4,420 salmon and 9,450 grilse.
The Southwest Miramichi now has a reported 7,370 salmon and 25,080 grilse.
9,030 fresh salmon and grilse enterd the system in the last 15 days.
The Cains river and the Little Southwest are the most fishable out of all the branches! However the Little Southwest is fishing pooly dispite the great water.
The Sothwest is still way too high anywhere below Blackville!
With as much as 50mm of rain forecast for the Southwest watershed it looks like the season end will be blown out! Some of the tribs like the Cains may crest and fall quick enough to give us a few days of good fishing yet. The Southwest is already unfishable at the lower end and will be flood stage by morning if as much as 25mm of rain falls today
30 to 40mm for the Northwest watershed including the Little Southwest should have the river cresting by tomorrow sometime. Looks like thanksgiving weekend will be blown out but by mid week levels may be down enough to get a little fishing in provided there is no more rain.
It’s hard to say until the final counts in November. Water conditions and weather will play a role on timing of the runs.
You can get the raw numbers from this site https://www.glf.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/sci-sci/asir-risa/index-e.jsp
Just remember some of these are just sample traps and the actual numbers have to be calculated by the biologists. You can however get a good comparison of runs from the past 5 years and the 10 year mean.
Watching the radar all day, looks like the bulk of the rain hit doaktown and everything south of doaktown. Could the LSW and Renous be spared more rain?
I was on the “river” from 10 am till dark, the rain never let up till about 4 pm and the water just kept coming up.
Here is a good link if you are looking for accurate rain fall reports. I think you will find Kagout Brook the closest station to the headwaters of the LSW.
