THOMPSON STEELHEAD FISHERY TO REOPEN
*
KAMLOOPS – The Thompson River catch-and-release steelhead fishery will reopen on Saturday, Oct. 30.
*
*********** The decision was made by the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection following evidence that the river’s steelhead population has reached a sustainable level. The most recent findings of the Albion test fishery predict 1,200 Thompson steelhead returning, above the 850 threshold set for sustainability goals.
*
Anglers will have the opportunity to catch and release steelhead until the season’s usual closing date, Dec. 31.
*
The fishery will be open on the Thompson River from Kamloops Lake to the CNR bridge below Lytton. Anglers are reminded that a bait ban is in effect upstream from the boundary signs located near Martel.
