Condtions on the Gaspe

Fishing conditions on the Gaspe are just about as difficult as I have ever seen in them in 26 years. We have extremely low water levels. Fortunately the water temperatures are good (high 50's and low 60's) now. There were very warm water temps a few weeks ago and there were fish kills on several rivers.

The river that we have had the best success on is the Grande River because the upper part of the river benefits from some springs and a lack of cutting. I suspect there are lots of fish in the estuaries awaiting the next decent bump of water. It doesn't look like we will get one ahead of this week's full moon, though.

Our friends from Eastern Fly Fishing are in camp and have had decent luck on the Grande; hopefully the York will treat us well tomorrow!

Send us some rain!!!

Juro:

We have been fortunate enough to have cooler than normal air temperatures. They are calling for a bit of rain overnight and then more of it on Saturday. Keepin' our fingers crossed.

Fall will be here before long and the September rains will be welcomed. If you get up this way this season feel free to drop in.

We are getting our much anticipated rain this evening. This will not only bring up the rivers and improve the fishing; it will bring in all of the fish which have been hanging out in the bays.

The small rivers have large percentages of their runs yet to come up and the bigger rivers will get their fair share of fresh salmon as well. Fishing should be very good over the next week to 10 days. There is very little fishing pressure on the Peninsula rivers as of now.
