An Awesome epic Rip trip. Bully sized brawling Blues that made Paxton's prediction come true. I broke my rod on a Blue!!! Thanks Jim for a great trip.
Great to fish with Paxton, CJS60, Flydoc, Warren Jims Simms and Frank from Alaska and Sean Juan who has mastered the two handed rod. He now catches stripers and blues instead of flounder on the rod.:chuckle: :lildevl:
As they say a good time was had by all. FishHawk

Another grueling day has come to a close. I thought all the tourist had gone home after Labor Day weekend. ....Silly me. Traffic was a pain in the you know what going home.

I am pretty sure I caught more bluefish than I thought were in the ocean.:D
Man were they fun. The little stripers too. I guess I was about 60 % blues 40% bass. I didn't keep count. All I know is that every time I looked around some one was hooked up.

I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time and fishing beside. "The Cape Cod Salt Water Specialist" Sean Juan. An experience I will not soon forget. Sean your recounting of the exchange you had with that guy on the boat kept me chuckling while I was crawling along the Mid Cape & Route 3:hihi: Thanks.

It was a pleasure Gentlemen, As always

Great day, great spot, cooperative wind, great company...and hungry fish present....is that all? :)
Bill..sorry you broke your rod :frown: I figured that I would, given that I have tried for 3 years to get to go on a rip trip. Must say that the extra rod dangling all day from my sling pack made feel like someone was bumping into me all day. Was taking no chances of missing out on fishing.
Took Jim's good counsel (as usual) and switched to a weighted fly and fast sink line to get down to the bass and avoid the blues....all but one fish I caught were bass. Blues are fun and great fighters, but I was hoping to attract a large keeper bass.....but...all cookie cutter 18 to 24 linesiders. In that current, they at least felt like keepers. :)
A question for you experienced rip trippers.....when we got there we fished the west side of the rip......when the rip was to reform near our departure time...if we stayed would we have fished the east side of the rip? Just curious in case I ever get to do it again.
Jim....thanks again for the "spot".
Warren......re driving back.....rt 6 definitely wasn't fun, but you missed the Foxboro traffic on 495 north....it took me an hour longer to get home...at least the Pats won.

Sunday was an idyllic day for the rip trip, light wind, clear skies and comfortable temperature. Of course, the bonus was the fishing. Both bass and blues were along the shore all the way to the rip feasting on the peanuts. At the rip, the fishing continued until the peanusts left late in the afternoon.

Everyone caught a couple dozen stripers, and landed blues if they had wire. Nothing big, but quantity made it a nice day.

The disasspointment was the lack of albies at the rip.

Thanks Keith for a great ride on the new boat.

If those guys didn't want to be lied to they shouldn't have asked any questions...

Great trip, real fun day out on the water with great company. I'd fish with any of those guys anytime.

Thinking about it now I think bigger bass were probably even deeper - not sure if there is a fly rig that can get much deeper than an x-fast sinking head, short fluro leader and DE with exceptionally large eyes.

Maybe now you'll replace your bamboo rod....:chuckle:

Bill- I'd call T+T about the reliability of their "BlueTooth Technology"...seemed to fail you at the crucial moment....when in doubt, trust the old duct tape to keep it all together!
Essentially a carbon copy of August's trip, with my first fish (a 24 inch blue) the one exception. A blast as always....hoping to repeat this next weekend.

I will check the looseness of the ferrules more often. However, I think I horsed the fish in too quick and should have played it much longer. But , I think it was the loose ferrule that did the damage. At least I broke the rod on a fish. :lildevl:

Yes Bill, That's right...atleast it was a fish....not like the rod you broke while spying for the Allies at Stalingrad... remember when you stuck it down the barrel of an 88 and saved my life:eek: ...... Thanks again pal.

For Gods sake John you sound like the old drunks that used to hang out in the Fireside Lounge, Ft Walton Beach Fl.
