Season winding down in New England

Well, it's almost October already here in New England and that means that there's about one more month of decent warmwater flyfishing as fish start to fatten up for the cold season ahead. For me, that means looking for smallies and pike locally, and amusing myself with some panfish on a few resevoirs.

Remember, it's water temperatures that affect fish, not the air temperatures that we feel. Sometimes it's hard to grasp that and easy to get discouraged as the weather gets colder.

You folks in the south have it good....I'm envious of your longer seasons.
