I must admit on my last trip to Sekiu with Doublespey throwing a Beach popper into the kelp, I was a little skeptical. I am a big rip hooknose type of guy, but what I saw with the popper in noontime sun on a slack high tide after everyone had gone to port for a burger and beer was nothing short of AMAZING.
There is a dark side in the ocean salmonid that just can't help but crush a popper! I see it in stripers and bluefish on the atlantic but chrome bright salmon and trout in the emerald waters of Washington state?? You betcha'! I stand thoroughly convinced.
And birds like it too! I'll let Brian explain that one.
