The body doesn't need to be shortened, it is fine as it is. To get the mallard to "hug" the body, tie it in by the gray roots of the bronze mallard, and also tie it a little wider than you did so that it sets down on the sides of the body. Another thing to do is pluck the collar feather fibers from the top of the fly. This doesn't take much time and it allows the wing to sit lower because it is not being pushed up by the guinea.
