Those braided nylon loops should be touched with a drop of glue AND whipped to the end of the fly line, if you're going to use them. They need constant inspection against abrasion and breakage if you shore fish; you can obviously either loop to loop line/backing with them.

an equally strong and more flexible way is to make a braided loop out of braided dacron. Requires doubling braid back inside itself, then inserting flyline, working the two together for a minimum of 8" - I go way longer, almost X3 (24"), just like a chinese finger puzzle, and still nail knot/whip bind it to the body of the fly line.
