With the beadheaded nymphs I'm casting past the fish(but not too far, if you line them with the flyline they spook) so that the impact of the weighted fly doesn't spook them and taking a strip or two so that the fly comes to rest near their face.

The water is deep and murky enough that I can't actually see the take, so once it's in the strike zone I generally watch the tip of the flyline and slooooooowly strip the line in, any twitches and I set the hook.

There are a ton of sunnies and bluegill in the pond I'm fishing, and I've found that with an unweighted nymph they will often take the fly before it gets into the carp's strike zone, so I had to go to the weighted flies.
