That helps explain something I learned a long time ago while I wore a a blue suit for a living.
It seems that Navy helo pilots would get some "bootleg" stick time by flying for the USCG. We issued our aircrews with either orange or khaki flight suits, but our naval bretheren were flying in dark blue. I was informed that that color excited the interest of wildlife, and while a Coast Guard pilot was the product of years of expensive training, "there was always another Navy pilot".
I always wondered about that, but you and Adrian have given me pause to recollect...
