There are a couple of flies that I will use in stillwater in the spring .I think I was speaking of the'' Woodie ''', a wet fly that was shown to me by Jack Cooper(the originator)It goes like this:
#12 wet fly hook
Tie in a wood duck tail
body:Peacock herl
wing :wood duck short, and flat
hackle:1 1/2 turns brown hen hackle
Jack fishes this fly with a 20 ft leader.
cast to the rise , tighten the line, and let it sink (up to 2min in some cases).Fish will take this fly sinking. You have to find how they want this fly ,sometimes moving, sometimes sinking.
Another one that is deadly is a fly that was shown to me by Russ Hopkinson
my old fishin buddy ( he's in his 8o's ,and doesn't fish much any more) .Russ could make it happen.

hook: 9672
weight hook
body: Brown triglobal mohair yarn
Go to a yarn shop ,find the stuff that has some sparkly fibers of red, blue green, etc , mixed in with the brown
tie in at the tail, and wrap forward.Stroke the fibers back as you wrap to the head.
kind of pick out the fibers with a velcro stick at the head.
I tink this looks like a dragon fly nymph to the fish.
cast ,let it sink , and strip it in.
good searching pattern.
