I spent the last nine years guiding in Montana and Wyoming, and the 9' 5 wt is the way to go. that rod will allow you to fish nymph rigs, smaller streamers, and most importantly large and small dry flies in windy conditions. i only fished the lighter rods on smaller water with smaller flies.
