The 'Patricia' immediately comes to mind when referring to claret-colored steelhead flies - very effective, very popular, and very 'PNW'.
Claret (and combinations of Black and Claret) have been very effective colors for Steelheaders throughout British Columbia - for many years.
The claret and black RiverRat Squid is proving to be a very deady pattern for both Salmon and Steelhead on several Alaskan rivers as well...
Ward Cummings also designed a marvelous pattern in the 1930's that is still bringing PNW Steelhead to the net - the Cummings Special is also claret.
Yup, I definitely beg to differ.
