Fly'in for Bass

Well I have been leaning more toward poppers than flies for bass. I see that I can make more of a commotion with a popper on the film than a fly. Catching nice little 1-1.5 lb smallies in Dunkens creek does it for me, but I think i'll try for some bigger ones next. My creek[not Dunkens] only has a small percentage of bluegill, and carp and creek chubs dominate so I cant do it there. Even when the creek dried up, still no evidence of rock bass or any other kind. I also have had no experience with "wet flies" I have read that you need a special sinking line and split shot. Won't the fly fall to fast??? Thanks for your time
