Black Bunny - Favorites Swap Fly
Here's my entry for the Favorites Swap. I tied it based on the Bonito Bunny, but it probably has it's own freshwater name and heritage. (edit: guess it looks just like the black leech in the steelhead/Alaska selections in one of my catalogs.) Nothing fancy about it but it's one of my favorites because the fish love it, it's easy to tie and it's made from common, inexpensive materials. It's also quite durable and casts well on my 7wt.
Hook: small bass bug hook. Not sure what size but smaller than the typical 3/0
Thread: black 3/0
Tail Support: mono loop. I did some with 20# but switched to 8#
Tail: black rabbit fur strip, 1/8" wide, 2" long, tapered ends
Body: black cross-cut rabbit fur strip, 1/8" wide
Weed Guards: 20# mono
Chemicals: Soft Body, Head Cement
Instructions to follow:
The farther you can cast, the easier it is for a fish to take you into your backing. I seldom see my backing . . .
