New England Trout in second gear

Stopped by Walden Pond (Concord MA) during lunch break... trout rising everywhere for the black gnat hatch. Swallows working over the cobble area just around the first point on the left from the launch. Rising activity primarily dimples and subsurface rolls, probably a black gnat emerger bonanza for someone with a float tube, canoe, kickboat. In past years I did well with a bead-head bugger even when they were taking tiny bugs. When my imitators failed I went to "aggravators" and did well.

The activity was distinctly more heated than my last observation. A local said the state planned to stock 800 14" plus fish today or tomorrow as an aside.

In any case, holdover fish and wild fish around the region should be getting in a higher gear as the water warms after the current cold spell.
