I don't think circle hooks are any better for flies for tarpon, in fact I think they are worse. Bait fishing certainly yes but not flies. All my guides have at one time or another tried circle hooks...

I'm hoping your guide uses the spear to scare and not kill the shark. Sharks are in general an endangered species, over fished in many cases to a mere 10% of less of the population 20 years ago. As...

Jumping on a shark is pure foolishness. 95% of the time it may flee but that 5% it does not you will be in for a world of hurt. You might as well say it's okay to walk around tiger infested jungle...

I do the same thing with the bulk spool except I take along a 3/8 inch drill to speed up (greatly) the backing stripping/winding process. Can take off 2,500 yards of backing off 4 reels in under 15...

Just out of curiosity as I always ask this when I hear the reels are not allowed as carryon - was this because of the backing and flyline on the reels? Or would it have made not one iota of...

One of TFO's driving philosophies, as I understand it (I recently read this on another board) was to design the rods to be easily replaceable with other sections (from the same model of course) to...

I think the classic GLX rods are great rods, personally I prefer them over the XP. Best thing to do (I know, everyone says it all the time) is to cast each one and see which you like.

Wow all this discussion about how to change a spool on a Dannielson.

I'm sure they are fine reels but I doubt they can compare to a Mako. The Makos are an improvement on the Charlton reels and...

I've fished as late as August for poons in the Keys and it gets tough. The migratory fish are long gone and you have resident fish left, most of whom are pounded year round by people and as a result...

Tarpon fishing in the Keys can still be quite good in June but they are thinning out rapidly by July. So it all depends on which month you make the trip. If it's July I'd look more up the Gulf...

I hear the tarpon are making a nice migration now...much better than last year. My guide says 2 days ago in KW he saw over 1,000 poons including a school of 300.
