When these flies get wet they get more round bodied like a pollock. If I were to tie them more to imitate bunker or herring I would high tie the bucktail along the hookshank and tie all the feathers...

I believe the carpet fly is made of a similar type of yarn but tied like a glo bug not sucker spawn. Usually a lot of different colors are used together including even darker natural colors.

They are tied with plastic yarn although I tie them with sparkle yarn, angora yarn or glo bug yarn also. It's an easy tie but effective pattern....good one to fill the box up with. I can lose them...
