I believe they made the rod the length it is, due to tournament rules regarding rod length. I also understand that the special line that is supplied with it is more along the lines of a 10wt in size....

For an inexpensive reel, check out the Bass Pro Shop " Hobbs Creek" reels. Great reels and they sell for around 40.00. I have 2 and they are great reels and I have never had a problem with them....

Here in Central Florida, I am waiting for the water to settle out from Hurricane Charley. The bluegill fishing has be pretty good here prior to the storm. At least we didn't get slammed like Orlando...
