So I'm curious :

(a) Have you received your Mako reel?
(b) How is the drag performance (did it live up to or exceed your expectations)?
(c) Is the engineering and machining all that it is touted...

Good things are worth shooting for.

At your age I would guess you are doing what I did then: getting the best you can afford/trade/bargain for. Captain Gray doesn't really have to have stuff like the Makos but he has worked hard all...

there is NO free lunch, sorta.

[B] Juro has been right all along. These reels comprised a tremendous amount of effort and expense to produce, abiet lower high end, but a great value for anglers everywhere, while it lasted. A...

Hurting The Forum

Salmo,

You are quite right. As I own several Danielsson reels, I share your admiration for the product. However I can't throw in with the "most reliable, currently available"or the "regardless of...

Sean - I agree mostly.

Sean - You are a very methodical fellow and I agree with most of what you say, but it is obvious you have not had the pleasure of owning and using a Charlton reel. If you had your comments about...

Wouldn't Live or Do Bussiness in Sweden on a Bet

Salmo,

Here is the reality of taxation in Sweden. Let's start with the base tax of 28% on profits made by the corporation. Next the corporate owners will pay 60% on moneys they derive as income...

It's a Pity

If the Danielsson claims are true and then the product stands the test of time, it would truly be an inovative reel. The pity is though that they will likely find that less than 5% of flyfishers...

Danielsson reels are nice

Salmo,

Let's start with this - Danielsson reels are very good. I went to the Danielsson site but I did not see any mention of self adjusting drag mechanisms - did I miss something? Don't get me...

Might Consider Holdin Off a While

I know Danielsson and Nautilus are fine reels. Many would say Tibor and Abel are as well, although somewhat technologically dated. If you chose to go the technology route this might be something to...

The Most Collectable

I know this will not address the original question but just to offer an opinion on the most collectable Spey reel on the face of this earth. Thirteen years ago when Jim Vincent (founder of Rio Lines)...

SAGE DRAG

THE SAGE IS A GREAT DRAG SYSTEM FOR THE REASONS YOU MENTIONED. IT WAS DESIGNED BY JACK CHARLTON IN 1999 WHEN DON GREEN (FOUNDER OF SAGE) APPROACHED HIM WITH THE CHALLENGE OF ENGINEERING A...

GETTING SERIOUS

THERE ARE NO REELS EVEN A CLOSE SECOND TO CHARLTONS EITHER IN QUALITY OR PERFORMANCE - PERIOD. THIS MIGHT EXPLAIN WHY CHARLTONS ARE SELLING FOR 2/3 TIMES THEIR ORIGINAL SELLING PRICE.
