GL Steelhead: Scrambled Eggs
Here is a pattren popular in the GL region, especially in the Erie tributaries. Steelhead go crazy over these in the morning, all you need is the bacon! They can be tied in many different colors and sizes, although sizes #12 - 16 are most popular.
Scrambled Eggs: Color: Blue/Chartruese
Hook: Tiemco 2457 #12 - #16
Thread: Yellow/Chartruese 8/0 Uni
Tag: Blue krystal flash(optional)
Body(side #1): Blue micro globug yarn
Body(side #2): Chartruese micro globug yarn
**Make sure you make three - four loops and weave the pattern, doing chartruese then blue, and repeating.
Can't go without some of these in my boxes!
How about a little more detail, so we can build some of our own, please.
I take it these are exclusively a fall pattern since the nookies are out of the river in the springtime?
I'm going up for my first spring trip (have done many fall days) to NY in a couple of weeks and looking for pattern suggestions. I was thinking along the lines of a swung spey fly/streamer or small stonefly imitations?
You can use egg flies spring or fall beleive me in the GL.
They look nice Dan, but I already have my go to egg flies.
The box is filled.
It always amazed me when I saw guys pay $1 or more for an egg fly.
Seen many chinook adorned with egg flies come October. Saw one fish that looked like a living yarn carpet. Must have had 30 flies in its body.
Found this older thread looking for some info.
Forgot to answer your question. This fly works exceptional in spring when the water is higher and you need an attractor. Although quite small, they do the job.
A crossover sucker spawn imitation I guess you could say:rolleyes: ?
