Sedge Pattern

1 Attachment(s)
This is the sedge pattern I use on BC lakes. Based on Mitch's segde pattern.
Two colours are used for the body, shown here is the bright green which I use for a few days after the hatch, while the "travellers" are moving around the surface and laying eggs.
During the hatch, I use the same pattern with a gold/olive dubbing blend and tie the dubbing very loose for a bigger profile and more transparency.

Sedge Tying instructions

Hook: Dry Fly size 10-12, 2X long shank
Body: Dubbing of fur & synthetics, bright green or mix of olive/gold.
Tail/Wings : Elk hair, I used the rump hair which is really white/cream and very krinkly. Tie in the tail and overwrap the hook with the stubs up to the eye. This shapes the body and helps in floatation. Repeat the overwrap for the rear wing. The middle wing is trimmed close to the shank. Cut the front end wing butts of to form a stubby head, just like the EHC.
Head: Peacock herl, wrapping behind the elk butts that stand out in front.
