Doug's Damsel
1 Attachment(s)
This is a damsel nymph pattern originated by Doug Jorgensen.

Hook: Typical nymph (here, a size 12)
Thread: 6/0, olive
Wingcase: Olive duck or goose quill (here, goose)
Eyes: Monofilament
Tail: Olive marabou
Abdomen: Olive Haretron dubbing
Thorax: Same as abdomen
Legs: Olive marabou

Most damsel nymphs are naturally one to one and a half inches, and the size 12 fits this nicely.

The same fly viewed from above.....the marabou legs are intentionally left a bit long so they can be trimmed on the water as needed.

This should work well in warm water as well.

Mark ..good job.... I can learn a lot about tying trout flies this way.

Nice tie. I fish damsels a lot esp in slow water as John said. One tip I was given that you may want to consider is a dubbing loop/brush of antron for the body or (the ultimate) a dubbing loop of clipped marabou. It takes a while to master keeping the fibers in the loop but man does it look good underwater when it's slicked down. I think damsels have their gills on the side where the legs are tied in and the natural breathing action of the marabou is too much for the fish to resist.

A killer pattern in sections of the Nissitissit and Squanacook rivers here in Eastern MA.
