patterns help

I am coming to the cape the third week in August and have started to tie deceivers. What is the short list of other patterns that I should work on. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks
Brad

Deceivers are a good choice, bunker should be showing up by then. I prefer a variation of the Page Roger's bigeye baitfish style over the standard deceiver (see archive).

Silversides are starting to appear in good numbers around the Cape, gotta have some slimmer profile synthetics like the Popovics Surf candy in the box. I use a variation of Bob Clouser's deep minnow for silversides, basically a short deep eel with different colors.

Squid are probably the stripers' favorite food, judging by the way they lose it when a school of juvie squid come by.

Gotta have plenty of sand eel patterns in the box IMHO. I never leave home without them. ;)

At least one banger in the box, and some wire. Slammer blues are about to round the bend.

If you are going to sight fish, a crab and a shrimp are important.

Thanks a bunch Juro. If that is the short list I would hate to see your long list. I will work on the sand eels next. If we can find the tunoids do they eat the same stuff.

Tunoids like silversides (as in epoxy bodied), eel patterns, white bunnies, small bunker flies, etc. I've caught them on small thin sliders like Page's Slim Jim as well.

Short list? 9/10 outings I tie on a deep eel in the morning and don't take it off until the day is done. :smokin:
