Asian Carp - Great Lakes Threat
To think I drive over this canal to and from work each day and these things are in it. Not many fish the canal which is maybe 300 yards across basically a dredged channel that connects Lake Michigan to the Illinois river, to the Mississippi.

More from today's Chicago Tribune.

I could be fishing for these Big Heads with a 20 minute drive from my home. Looks like a 12 weight tarpon rod and some algae flies will do the trick.

Finding them though would be a big issue even with their size

FlyfishAr thanks for sending these our way. We will remember this.

A nother foreign species problem for all of the great lakes

Just like those damn kings and steelhead in the great lakes. Send em back where they came from. We would be happy to have em.

Thanks if I had time I would pull out my heavy king salmon fly rod gear and head for the Romeoville electric weir and give a go at these Big Heads. Romeoville is 30 minutes from my home in the Chicago SW surburbs. But I am under the gun at work on many fronts and leaving on Thursday night for a week in the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota for trout fishing, sight seeing, hiking, horseback riding, and maybe some rock climbing lessons with my 15 year old HS football player son who is getting in shape for the season which starts August 14th here in Illinois.

I am sure the Big Heads will still be there when I get back but then king salmon and summer run steelhead will be starting to run better in Lake Michigan, lots of choices, to little time to fish !!
