Joe... very imaginative... is the tail flexible or rigid? Did dave Fix give you those eyes?

Nick 06-07-2002 09:45 AM

Lets not talk about Dave giving Joe the "eyes"... :hehe:
Nice fly, Joe. Interesting design. I'd be curious to see how it cast. How thick is that tail material? What is it?

Hi
I'm going to try to answer both your questions, first this is not my design, it was published in the, Oct/Nov 2000 Saltwater Fly Fishing magazine, the author and designer of the fly is Fishy Fullum, he called it the "TUFF TAIL".
The tail material is called Bugskin, its very soft and flexible, its rather expensive, for what you get as you have to double the material to tie one fly, and its been a long tome ago that I tied some so I don't remember how many flies you do get from one skin..
I must admit its a fun fly to tie, about its fish catching ability, I cant answer that, but I'm sure there would be no problem casting it with a 8 or 9 wgt rod.
John the eyes I purchased at a locale craft store the are called DOLL-EYES, in a peeper pack, they come in 3 differant sizes, and these that I used on the Fishtail, and the Snook fly, are called OVAL EYES.
Any other information that I may have missed please let me know.
Joe
