Tellico Nymph

The Tellico Nymph

Hook: 1X or 2X Long Nymph Hook, Sizes 6 to 18
Thread: Black 8/0
Weight: Medium Wire, lead-free preferred
Tail: Guinea Hen
Back: Mottled turkey Wing
Rib: Peacock Herl
Body: Yellow, Orange, Red, White Floss,
Hackle: Brown
Note: Cementing the back will make fly more durable.

I found this pattern in Fly Tyer magazine 'twice'. It's named after the Tellico River in Tennessee and takes trout in the Catskills as well. The larger sizes might resemble a stone fly while the smaller sizes, my preference in yellow, resemble a caddis pupa.

If I hadn't been so negligent in e-mailing the directions for how to post pictures of flys in the trout fly swap Barry would have been able to post this pic. It is a pretty fly that I think will work very well.

ALTERNATE...
I tie this pattern minus the tail and add small rubber legs about where the thorax would be and it is a killer on many BC and Montana lakes. Not sure what it really imitates, my attempt was to have an "attractor" style waterboatman/backswimmer pattern. I tie it on a scud style hook to get the body curve.

Beautiful fly cane86! Trout fishing's just starting for me, I'll give these a swim in my local waters.
