Line Repair

Hello all! I have an almost new fly line, an Airflo long Delta spey if it matters, and I managed to put a pretty good nick in the coating about a foot behind the back end of the head. The nick is probably 3-4 mm long and I can see the core but thankfully the core is not damaged.
So I was thinking about whipping some thread over it and then coating it with pliobond or aquaseal. Any opinions?

Just put a drop of flex-zap on the hole and let set or if that dosnt work try a splice like the epoxy splice but use flex-zap instead of the epoxy.

I was recently introduced to UV KNOT SENSE by Loon - the bottle says you can mend lines with it. After seeing how it performs on my knots, I thing it would do the trick.

good luck

Well, I guess I was wrong. The core was damaged. Before I started to repair the line today I gave it a good tug and it broke. So now I have to splice it. Never done that before. Anyone have any suggestions?

Splicing lines has been wonderfully covered on the old INternational Spey casting pages, which are now archived here on FFF.

Go to FFF search engine.

type splicing spey lines

scroll down to a thread called "splicing spey lines"

I've found that aquaseal thinned with lacquer thinner works well for splicing. Zap a gap seals up too quick for me, and sometimes results in a wrinkled splice.

Eugine, e-mail me with your mailing address and I will send you the info.

Eugene-
I would try sending the line back to Airflo are bringing it into your dealer because I have heard that Airflo has had some problems with seperation on the new Long Delta Spey and you might just luck out and get a new line. :)
