Oysters in season
"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans."
Ernest Hemingway (A Moveable Feast)

Ernie was definitely going over the edge at that point!

I'm glad that was a quote, was getting worried about you.

I always liked Ernie's description of Irish whiskey from the short story Three Day Blow.

Oh sure...

Ernest waxes poetic and it's genuis... but I try some prose and you send me to the funny farm!

FYI - to be a renaissance man you must not be one-dimensional. The Samurai for instance were known for their martial prowess but it was required that they be well-rounded as artists and statesmen.

Anything else would be simply... "uncivilized". :hihi:

Ahh geez. Now he's the most interesting man in the world!

Those oysters don't need no poetry. Picture's worth a, sonnets.

It was all a ruse because I wanted to quote an underarm deodorant commercial

I was almost feeling guilty about my post, but you have to remember this is the guy who also said"A man's worst enemy is a half bottle of champagne."I think maybe he'd knocked off his enemies before writing that quote, the only thing he left out was the slurring of his words!

Hey Neal -

How were those 15 blue crabs, 8 quarts of littlenecks and dozen wild oysters I sent you home with the other day?

Houston - we have a problem.

nmbrowncom 10-07-2010 05:28 PM

utterly delectable

I think this matter requires further research... the weather sound perfect for this weekend

quahoggin, oysterin, musselin and scallopin have to be some of my favorite wintertime (or anytime) activities. pair the oysters and littlenecks on the halfshell with a good sauvignon blanc and nothing beats it.

boatdrinks 12-02-2010 12:39 PM

btw is it just me or do outer cape oysters have the prettiest shaped shell of any oyster? I would start a debate over taste but that could take years and cost millions of lives.

juro 12-02-2010 01:03 PM

Yes - great stuff! I prefer a good Viognier because it's less overpowering. But I love a good sauv blanc don't get me wrong :)
