Cascapedia River netting...

Anglers,

On Friday an agreement was signed with the Mic Mac band placing a halt to the netting for a period of 4-years.

Good news for all creatures that swim back to the Baie des Chaluers...

That's good news David! I only hope all interested parties can agree to extend the agreement past the 4th year, and that everyone abides by it. It was sad the last couple of years to see so few fish in the Grand Casc.

If only the PNW could come to such an agreement...

That is awesome news!

Any chance of that agreement actually being enforced? My experience with these kinds of band agreements in other regions is that individual members of the band disagree with the leadership and net/poach anyways without reprisal.

As a footnote it was the Gesgapegiag Band that initiated the talks with the Quebec Gov't and a LOT of work and time went into this .Band chief Guy Bondo is very popular and has a vested interest in Salmon fishing on the Grande Cascapedia.. When the band went to vote they voted unwhelminingly in favour .
Strong rumours are afloat that same is in the works for the Restigouche/ Matapedia .Now THAT is the awesome news that we're all waiting for
Cheers
