Waterproof compact video camera
New products on the market include a compact waterproof video camera (5 ft) and still camera with video (10ft) worth a look...
Both are in stock at Costco and should be popular with Mrs.Santa's everywhere :)
Sanyo Xacti VPC-E1 (top)
Ideal for active families, vacationers and water sports enthusiasts, the ultra-compact E1 can record high-quality video and 6-megapixel stills under water to a depth of five feet for up to one hour at a time.
That side panel is a large swing-out LCD screen for easy viewing above or below surface.
$319 - $399 on line
Olympus Stylus 1030 SW (bottom)
10.1 MP 2.7" LCD 3.6x Optical 5x Digital
I recently picked up the SW1030. I'm not ready to comment on it because I haven't put it through its paces yet. I'm generally impressed and like the equivelent 28 to 105mm zoom but have not got used to not having the viewfinder and I have a few shots with my finger at the top edge of the pic. Paid $319 at amazon plus another $25 for a 2 gig memory card. I'm thinking I should have picked up the sw770 which was available for pretty short money (I believe the 1030 is its replacement).
Canon vs Pentax vs Olympus
The cameras are BRILLIANT...
Canon and Pentax software (to me) seems user friendly...
My Olympus 1030 software is challenging and annoying...
Agreed on the 1030 software. Again, I haven't made any effort to get familiar with it but the software is annoying. All's I want to do is download the damn pics to a directory of my choosing...
Why use the vendor's SW? Just put the card in a card reader and it's treated like a removable drive.
