Chinook taking it on the snout in BC...

In this salmonnation.com diagram, note the abuse that Vancouver Island and sunshine coast chinook have taken; I suspect that this is largely due to habitat loss from logging.

"Salmon Nation" is a book offered by Ecotrust to provide information from 'behind the scenes' about industry practices today and how they affect salmon.

You can buy it on line for $9.95, less for multiple copies. If anyone is interested we can pool up an order.

J,

I would guess habitat loss due to the adverse effects of DAMS. It appears that much of the extinction area is Upper Sac, and Upper Columbia. We must recall that many of the original DAMS had been built without regard fish passage.

thoughts?

Andre -

I agree with the upper sac as well as top reach of Columbia. I was referring to the surprising stat of "at risk" along Vancouver Island and the BC coast to the east of the island, which is the hotbed of coastal logging practices. As far as I know these are not dammed rivers(?)
