Is this thing over kill for early Kings in the GL's and Keys Permit? Another board member has one his is thinking of unloading, and I am eyeballing it. Any tips of grain weight would be appreciated also.
Kings - I would say great. Permit I would opt for a single hander. Jacks, cuda, trevally - the Atlantis is the better tool.
In the 38ft length the rod likes the grains in the high 500's. In longer heads, like all rods it will take more to load as the longer the taper / head the more grains any given rod will like best.
I favor the 38ft head for overhead casting on this rod, and I like a gradual rear taper extending beyond to allow a little overhang.
It's perfect niche is where a typical two-hander is too long and soft, and a single hander is just too much work.
