Anchor trolley system installed

I spent an hour or so this evening installing a simple anchor trolley system on the kayak. What this device allows me to do is move my anchor line anywhere from bow to stern so that I can set up for optimal fishing angles from the kayak. A line is run through some loops and runners along the port side of the kayak, and each end is tied to a solid plastic snap. The anchor line is clipped inside of the snap, so that when the running line of the trolley is moved fore or aft the anchor line position moves with it.

I spent last year simply tying the anchor off of the rope cleat right on the side, resulting in a great deal of drag. With the anchor line coming off of the kayak at a right angle, any wind or tide going against the side of the craft made solid anchoring very difficult. Now I can set the anchor line to be directly to the stern (the most likely fishing scenario to allow casting downtide) or anywhere up to the bow. The bow and stern positions provide minimal drag, and anchor sets will be more solid. It's also nice to have some flexibility.

Field tests and feedback will come soon.

Very clever design, thanks for sharing that idea.

After use in some rather strong tides, I can say that I'm satisfied with this system. It worked regardless of whether or not I was in the kayak (fishing or parked while wade fishing).

Hi Mark,

Boy I sure could have used your anchor trolly design to keep my kayak pointed in to the strong currents off Nobska light and woods hole the last time out. I'd love to see the system and replicate it for my Prowler. If possible could you post a picture or two and where you got the clip that you use.

Or better yet maybe I can see it in person, we are still overdue to get out for a yak attack sometime in CT some evening.

Thanks,
Greg.

Hi Greg

Hopefully we can get out again before November :)

GregD 07-21-2006 10:50 AM

Hi Adrian,

I'd love to get out with you again, and Mark too. And yes well before November comes we are overdue. I'm still working in CT. Perhaps we could get out in the next couple of weeks on a friday night, Quonny perhaps at night or even around the Connecticut river, Thames river etc...

Let's see what work and the weather bring and get out on the water.....

Greg.

Greg-

Seeing the system in person will be much better than posting some pics, plus it's another excuse to get together and fish again.

Let's do it soon. :)

Next Friday sounds like it might be doable since I plan to be in RI on Saturday 29. Lets see how the weather shakes out...

Hi guys,

Mark I do like the idea of seeing it in person and fishin with you over the pictures. Perhaps we can sync up with Adrian friday night too.

Let's plan for the friday the 28-29th if possible, I think I can swing it if work and weather co-operate. How does that look for you guys...

Greg.

Next Friday night looks good, but Saturday will not work for me. Let's keep Friday in mind, and watch the weather.

GregD 07-21-2006 04:53 PM

Hi Mark,

Ok... Friday it is. I hope the weather is co-operative, it's been too long since we fished. I'll go wherever we decide to CT or RI just let me know... Hopefully Adrian can join us too.

Greg.
