Pink salmon in Michigan

:smokin: I really need some good input here. I have always wanted to hook into some good pink salmon fishing in Michigan, but have always come up short. I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about them except that they are agressive and fight hard. I need to know when to fish where to fish and most of all what selection of flies to take. I have heard that they start the run in the summer and that they come in on odd years. So is this one of those odd years and if so where are they going to be most plentiful. Thanks for any info given and good fishing to you all.

Go North to the Garden River in Canada in mid-September.

Need some michigan spots if possible

Thanks Dornblaser for the canada tip I may try that but you see I only have five days at the most to fish and live in michigan so if I can find something closer it would help. I have five in september and five in october to fish.

I've heard good stuff about the Garden, too. It's only about 2 hrs or so from the Mac bridge.

that river is a zoo when the salmon run, unless you have rights to fish the reservation.

i know 2 great guides that do, pm me for info.

you can pull off diy (non reservation) but its crowded, really crowded.

Don't overlook trout fishing in the fall. When everyone else is looking for the Kings, the trout fishing can be fantastic.

Also, given the Midwest's drought and the higher than normal Lake water temps, I am expecting a short and late season. I hope that I am wrong.

Best,
David

Naw, here in Western MI all signs are pointing towards the usual 2-3 week window to get things going. I have a feeling we may have some fish nosing around in a week or two in the central rivers. They already have them in the early runners up north. Don't go starting ugly rumors Dave. :tsk_tsk:
