Cold July-More Trout?
Here inNew England we have had the coldest July I remember.
Lots of rain too. Water is high, weather cool, does this tranlate into some good mid summer trout fishing? I'll bet the brookie fishing ain't bad in the central Mass. foothills. Thoughts?

RE:Cold July-More Trout?
Good point, I was swimming in Cliff Pond in Brewster MA the other weekend and it was much cooler, crisper and clearer than most years. Almost like spring. I had thoughts of trout while there and I'm sure a dawn riser would find that you're right about this.

I wonder how the climate has affected trout fishing in other parts of the country?

the Deerfield is fishing very well right now, water temp 68 degrees.
Got this last weekend in a out of the way spot-about 16-18"

Nice fish! Maybe you could host a trout clave, some of us (me especically) are losing touch with fine tippets and finesse thanks to our striped buddies.

BTW - to show the image, just specify it after [img=<url>] where <url> is the address of the gif or jpeg.

RE:Cold July-More Trout?

Thought that I would also put in a positive word for the Deerfield. I have moved from that area, but still think it offers some of the better trout fishing in Massachusetts. I was a little dissapointed in a recent trip to the Nissitissit, so it looks as if I'll be heading back to the Deerfield or up to New Hampshire to get my trout fixes in. Just got back some pictures from a recent trip to the Deerfield. The fish in the picture (14.5") was taken home for lunch - it was a stocked fish (rounded fins), so I did not feel too bad. FWIW, I would not have beached the fish and taken the time to "pose" it if I was going to release it. There were a couple of others I caught that day that looked similar to Wollybugger's fish - with nice greenish backs and lavender stripes.
