Click and pawl reels
I'm looking for a good quality click and pawl reel for my 4wt rod. I wanted a hardy but it is getting hard to find a nice one on ebay or elsewhere. Could i get some barand names of good ones to help narrow my search a little. Price from 0-250 or so. Thanks much

If you want a Hardy by all means get one. The Featherweight is a perfect match for a 4 weight rod and is in your price range.

There are any number of inexpensive click-and-pawl reels, some discontinued. A hardyphile would insist that the sound of a Hardy click is unmistakeable, but to my tin ears, some of the others come close. In the 1960's, there were entire series of Japanese-made Hardy copies. They were crudely finished compared to Hardy's but entirely serviceable. Among the many inexpensive English-made click drag reels are the Cortland Crown and Crown II and the Cortland Rimfly. The latter has no drag adjustment, but is fine as is. I've picked up several as backup reels. The Extra Small or Small sizes would hold a 4-weight.

this post might be a lil late but in my humble opinion i think the best click pawl reel would be the abel TR reels, they are being discontinued so you can get them 60% off. abel will still make parts for them and service them. they dont have much of a drag but if you are trout and panfish fishing you dont need much. plus you can always palm if you need be

Don't know if Orvis still makes them but the old CFO's were great reels with an awesome sound!!!!

Almost by accident, I have acquired a Lamson LP "light" set up, which is essentially a reel with a clicker only. At first, I was wondering why they would make a dragless reel, but I have grown to love the simplicity it. And the Lamson quality is still present in an understated way. I have the LP2, which is rated for 5/6wt. but it works nicely for 4wt.
