loading and shooooop!

the more i cast, the more i get the feel for 'loading' the rod. partly, i believe, due to using a faster rod than what i started with, therefore, really feeling the rod load when everything comes together. it's almst as if the rod is doing part of the job of casting for you so you can relax and not over power the cast. hard to describe, but for me, it just clicks.

when i was out fishing yesterday, i had moments where i focused on my casting stroke and threw out a few good casts keeping the speed-up-and-stop principle. the casts felt smooth and effortless and the loops tight and clean. to remind myself of the technique, i make a shooOOOOOPP! sound with a crescendo. silly, but effective.

also, the double haul is coming along. the timing feels more natural and the effectiveness is more apparent. all this with clousers whizzing by my head in a good breeze and not a single self hook. huh.

i think having the faster rod that has a nice tip action and solid butt really let's me feel when i'm casting well or not. there isn't much room for error and when the rod loads, i can feel it load. when i am not smooth, my casts show so.

anyhows, it's late and i felt like writing that down somewhere, so here's a good spot i suppose. nite.

Great description, the ability to feel the rod and cast timing is important.

I sometimes will close my eyes and cast, the practice helps smooth out the entire cycle.
