Huge Mayfly Hatch
I was at a local single A baseball game last night. The park is placed on the banks of the mighty Merrimack River here in Lowell, Ma. About the 5 inning, the air filled with a tan #18 Mayfly. I mean it was snowing theses guys. Some fans left after a few innings. They coated everything. In the lights of the stadium it w3as an awesome sight, like a snow storm. Millions of the suckers. Then some big white MAyflys mixed in- about a a size 14. The smaller guys slowed down and finally thinned out while the bigguns picked up. The hatch went on for at least 2hours.
I know what those smallies in the river were eating last night.
As for the game the Lowell Spinners went 16 innings, their longest game and then lost it...doh.
That reminds me.....in some places, we're not too far away from the white fly hatch. Bring 'em on!
