Sure is Quiet???
Just checked my favorite Quebec river and the catch stats for this time in June are pretty much off the charts. Don't even want to think about the average weight of the fish being caught right now. OUCH, and DOUBLE OUCH- Jonesing pretty hard.

Either it is the only river fishing right now or...

I've heard same, my thoughts are wandering in that direction too... Topher and Greg Pearson are there now.

Chomping at the bit. I head up in another week. Now I know why Greg hasn't answered my PM.

I'm both eager and anxious. Although I've fished steelhead for years, I've never tried the Atlantics. I'm headed up the 19th for a week as a pilgram. Some of you have done this before and what words of wisdom might you have for the rookie?

What river(s) will you be fishing? If you're being guided, listen to him (them). There are some very skilled guides who know their rivers and their fish very well. You might be surprised to find that, unlike most of your steelhead fishing, fast moving flies are best in some circumstances, although most of the time I'll fish normal "sweeps". Also, in some places totally dead-drift dries will outfish waked ones. There are no hard and fast rules (I love to break normal traditions) but listen to your guide. You'll find some gorgeous water and good people on the Gaspé.

Never mind...

Thanks, Bill. I'm a good listener and can follow someones' good advise so I'll listen intently. I think that I'll be on the Dartmouth, St. Annes, and York. I'm told that I'll be fishing Sector 2 on the Dartmouth my first morning of fishing.

Gaspé Fishing
Morning Gentlemen,
Here is the present situation on some of the Gaspé rivers:

St-Jean: Salmon were seen and released in the Upper Sectors
and for Sector 1 ( they will start holding soon). This is
normal for the St-Jean.

Dartmouth: Jere, we can easily see 30+ salmon in Sector 2.
Last evening 2 fish released. Sector 2 has at least
three good holding pools...

York: The York has been producing fish everyday. We see fresh
fish coming in everyday. They are mainly holding in Sectors
4-5-6-7. Yesrterday, one of our clients hooked three and
landed 2 in Sector 6. One ther missed a big fish on a dry fly.

Cascapedia: We have landed a few fish( we have the lower end), in the Upper sectors fishing is slow.

Bonaventure; Only a few fish seen in the river.

Grande River: not many fish have arrived.

Greg and Topher are at Tim Horton's early every morning and on the rivers until dark! They are very secretive. but then mostly all anglers are.... I should see them this evening.

All in all, the season is starting very slowly....
the rivers are dropping fast, for early June. It is definitely not as good as last year. Thus, salmon that enter fly up river!!
What we need is rain!! We are dry fly fishing in early June and/ or catching fish with # 8 flies. Haven't seen this in a while.

The fish released or seen are all between 15 and 30+lbs. I am certain there are more to come... high tides coming soon, this usually produces a run of fresh fish.

Just got back from the Gaspe. The fishing was not as hot as last year but the fish are bigger.

Had a good time on the Cascapedia. The stretch you have is a great early season stretch. We saw a good number of fish but the wind that day killed it for us. To many leaves and sticks in the water for good fishing. Tony had a good fish on but lost fish and Spey line to a cracked stripping guide. Got some big fish on the York and Dartmouth however.

For those interested in how Topher and Greg Pearson did, they did get one fish that I know of. After that, I lost track of them.
