Ann, I think that I'd spend my time working the fish in photo 2, I think that it may have been moving on something that it was interested in rather than the fish in photo 1 that was probably traveling, moving farther upstream.

Both fish look to be moving in an upstream direction. It's hard to tell from picture two, whether the fish is moving or rolling around in a deeper water lie.

Throw a fly to both, or better still ask them!!!

Our experience with grilse is that the ones that jump completely out of the water are those that are just moving through the pool up river. Whereas the fish that "porpoise" like the one in picture two are hanging around the pool, and are active. I can't tell you how many fish I've hooked, and seen hooked over an area where a fish was just seen porpoising. In the tea dark peat stained waters in my area, those two presentations are about the only indicators of fish in the pools, because you can't see them. Hope this was of some help.
Tight lines!

I would have to go with fish number 2 also. And for the same reasons Jere and Sayow brought up. :D
