Bow River Bead Bugger
Creative use of beads....
Hook: #4 to #8 (shown here as a size 6 Daiichi 2220)
Thread: Black 6/0 Unithread
Tail: Black marabou
Body: 4 glass beads, clear or yellow (use 5 beads on size 4 and 3 on size 8)
Wing: 1/4 pencil of deer hair
Head: Light Olive Spun/dubbed ram/sculpin wool (dubbed & then spun with Olive UniStretch on this model)
Weight: Medium size gold bullet/cone head
Pinch the barbs, insert the cone, insert the beads, tie the tail & tie off. Move the tread to the front of the beads and secure the beads in place, wrap thread base to the front of the hook just behind the cone, tie off. Tie in the wing do not flare. Tie on with UniStretch covering the butt of the wing, open the thread and place wool inside, spin on between the beads and the cone, trim the wool to shape.
Whip finish and go fish!
That's a beautiful fly Pete.
Ditto to what Mark said. That looks like a great fly for probing deep dark holes.
