While messing around at the bench this evening, I came upon a frog pattern. I have no doubt that someone's come up with something like this before, though I've never seen anything quite like it.
So it's a tube fly popper, built on a 3/4" diameter piece of live body, cut and sanded to appear like a frog's head. The paint job is Prismacolor to imitate a northern leopard frog. I coated the head with 5-minute epoxy, which made the eyes (epoxy eyes) look a bit more bulbous (like natural frog's eyes). The body is ostrich herl, flash, white and olive marabou, and red zonker palmered. This one's going to use a 3/0 TMC 811S.
So, point me towards the pike... :smokin:
And one more...
Any idea how low the profile sits in the water? It seems like it would have only the upper part of the head and eyes protruding above the surface, just like a real frog.
I'm sure the fish will let you know. :)
