Using a larger tip-top diameter than the blank requires

I'm building a rod with a tip diameter of 4.5, however I'd like to use an oversized tip top with this rod, and unfortunately the smallest diameter TiCH top I can find is a 5.0. Is there some way to use the 5.0 on the 4.5? Can I build the tip up slightly and use this larger top?

Hey Chris,

An undercoating of thread may work but depending on what others say check out the extra large loop H&H titanium tip tops. They come in 4.5 and are comparable to the TiCH finished guides. Shoffs have em and I just put them on my 790 rplxi and they sure feel slick and look good. Sage uses them on thier rods.

Dude, I can't believe that I didn't see that! I ordered stuff from them last week; had I known to look under H & H I would have purchased one. Well, good; now I can use the proper size. Thanks!

Chris,

Going up 0.5 in a top is negligible. And since there is some manufacturing tolerance changes from one blank to the next of the same model, many times you need to go up that 0.5 for a rod top to fit.
