SCAM BUSTERS: read this!!
Sorry for such an off the wall topic, but I figured the more people who know about this the better.... I investigated; it's not a hoax. Several reputable police authorities recognize it as a scam that costs US citizens millions per year. The following came from the <!--http--><a href="" target="_blank">Scam Busters</a><!--url--> web site. There has been some spam about this recently, and this link details exactly what has and has not changed about this 4 year old scam.

Do not ever respond to Emails, Phone Calls, or Pages which tell you To call an "809" phone number. If you call from the U.S., you will probably be charged $25 per-minute, and may even be charged as much as $2500 per minute!

The 809 area code is located in the the Bahamas. This area code is used as a "pay-per-call" number, similar to 900 numbers in the US. But since the Bahamas are not in the US, it is not covered by US regulations of 900 numbers, which require that you be notified and warned of charges and rates involved when you call a "pay-per-call" number.

$2500 / minute? OUCH! It would be easy to overlook the area code if say an ad came on the TV for "Free Bonefish Trip" in February! Thanks for the warning,

$2500 per minute. Wow! That's the cost of a Bonefish trip to Christmas Island.

Even for a complete evening, high rental prostitutes don't even come close to that.

That's giving new meaning to the phrase "I got screwed" and big time.

1 809 SPANKME, Hah! Won't be calling that any more!
